Film : The Fountain (2006)

Visually this film is up there with my all time favourites. I’ve seen most of Darren Aronofsky’s films, (Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler and Black Swan) and lets put it this way, there’s not a happy fluttery floaty feeling in sight, these movies almost makes you perform some sort of introspection after watching them. After a sharp intake of breath and a realisation that it was ‘just a movie’ you move on, but this film was different for me. As much as I hate to admit it, I do like a love story a true love story though something that transcends time and space and this film beautifully does that. It tells the story of a man and woman over three life times. Hugh Jackman plays the conquistador, doctor and Spaceman and within each life he is searching for a cure, path to his love Rachel Weisz his queen, lover and soul. The film marries a few religious stories together, (Mayan, Christian, Buddhism, Judaism and at a very long stretch Pagan/Alcehmical) to achieve a story that will touch your heart. The film isn’t a clean watch and I feel the music and visuals compensate for this, but boy what visuals they are.

Have a look.

and here is the trailer.
